To Honor and Serve headlines Cigar Mile

11/23/2011 - Ozone Park, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Pennsylvania Derby winner To Honor and Serve heads a field of seven for Saturday's $250,000 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct. The three-year-old colt has been made the 7-5 morning-line favorite.

Trained by Bill Mott, To Honor and Serve will start from post six with Jose Lezcano again in the saddle. The colt will go after his third victory at Aqueduct in as many attempts.

"He's a big horse, but he seems to be fairly quick and he has speed for his size," Mott said about the Live Oak Plantation three-year-old. "Shortening back from 1 1/4-miles to a mile is not usually an easy task, but it's possible."

To Honor and Serve is coming off a seventh-place finish in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic behind Drosselmeyer three weeks ago at Churchill Downs.

"We thought he was doing well enough to nominate and train up to the Cigar Mile," said Mott. "I know it's a bit of a squeeze to come back after a race like that, but he's feeling good, it's a Grade 1, and probably the last race of the season for him."

Prior to the Classic, To Honor and Serve won the Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on September 24 after taking an allowance race a month earlier at Saratoga. He was third in both the Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby and as a two-year-old he won the Nashua and Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct.

The colt has career earnings of $996,340 with five wins in 10 starts.

A pair of horses owned by Mike Repole and trained by Todd Pletcher are entered for the stakes. Calibrachoa and Caixa Eletronica finished first and third, respectively, earlier this month in the Bold Ruler Stakes, will go off as a coupled entry. The entry is the 5-2 second choice in the program.

Calibrachoa will be ridden by Cornelio Velasquez from post three and Caixa Eletronica will break from the five hole with John Velazquez in the saddle.

Along with the Bold Ruler, the four-year-old Calibrachoa this year also won the Toboggan and Tom Fool followed by third-place finishes in the True North and Vanderbilt Handicaps. In October, the colt was fifth in the Vosburgh.

Calibrachoa has won eight of 17 career starts for $431,040, winning five of his last eight races.

Caixa Eletronica was third in the Vosburgh last month, but has not won a stakes race since upsetting the field in the Westchester Handicap back in April. The six-year-old was third in this year's Met Mile and sixth in the James Marvin Stakes. He then captured a pair of starter handicaps in August at Saratoga.

The chestnut horse comes into the stakes with earnings of $474,705 in 47 lifetime starts and 15 victories.

Here is the full field from the rail out for the Cigar Mile; Pretty Boy Freud, Irad Ortiz, Jr, 20-1; Haynesfield, Ramon Dominguez, 4-1; Calibrachoa, Cornelio Velasquez, 5-2; Hymn Book, Alan Garcia, 8-1; Caixa Eletronica, John Velazquez, 5-2; To Honor and Serve, Jose Lezcano, 7-5 and Sangaree, Rajiv Maragh, 5-1.

The Cigar Mile has a scheduled post-time of 3:20 p.m. (et).

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook

Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds.  The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.

Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.

Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
