Thunder's Brooks to coach West All-Stars

02/11/2012 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Oklahoma City's Scott Brooks will coach the Western Conference at the All-Star Game later this month.

The Thunder's 101-87 win over Utah on Friday enabled Oklahoma City to clinch the conference's best record through games of February 15, giving Brooks the nod for the February 26 contest at the Amway Center in Orlando.

Brooks was the NBA's top coach for the 2009-10 season and has led the Thunder to back-to-back playoff appearances. He was also named coach of the month for December/January.

The coach of the Eastern Conference will be determined by the team with the best record after games played on February 15. Chicago enters Saturday's action with a two-game lead over Miami.

So in lieu of a odds figure in which to bet the team to win outright, the Bears might be a three-point favorite over the New York Giants, and a 17-point favorite over the also-ran. Now that the team that is the underdog can "get" points, there can be equal action on both sides.

In sportsbooks, this is usually done with efficiency by charging the losing bettors 10% extra - in effect, bettors are laying 11/10 on those games. So they are actually betting $110 to win $100. If they lose, they pay the "vig." If they win, they simply collect.
