03/14/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlanta Thrashers will be without their top offensive weapon tonight when they visit the Buffalo Sabres and HSBC Arena.
The Thrashers notched a 4-3 overtime win against Edmonton on Thursday to post their fourth victory in a row. That is one shy of the season-best five consecutive wins they recorded from November 2-14.
However, leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk left the game in the first period with an upper-body injury and won't play tonight after returning to Atlanta for evaluation. He leads the Thrashers with 36 goals and 78 points and had a seven-game point streak (6 goals, 9 assists) end in Thursday's win.
Marty Reasoner scored with 49.3 ticks left in OT on Thursday, while Zach Bogosian, Bryan Little and Jim Slater also scored. Johan Hedberg made 29 saves to get the win.
Atlanta is now 2-0 on its current three-game road trip that ends tonight and has won six of its last nine as the visiting team. The Thrashers are 14-17-4 as the guest this year.
No Kovalchuk could mean good things for Buffalo's playoff chances. The Sabres come into this clash 10th overall in the Eastern Conference with 75 points, three back of a playoff seed.
The Sabres have won three of their last five games, including Thursday's 3-1 victory over Florida. Jaroslav Spacek registered a goal and an assist in the win, while Daniel Paille and Thomas Vanek also scored.
Vanek, who has 11 goals in 14 career games versus Atlanta, has scored twice in five games since coming back from a fractured jaw. His 34 goals on the season are tied for sixth in the NHL.
Patrick Lalime stopped 30-of-31 shots to earn the win.
The victory was Buffalo's third straight at home and improved the franchise to 20-12-2 as the host this year.
Atlanta has won three straight and four of its last five games versus the Sabres, including a pair of wins this year. However, Buffalo has earned a point in both meetings.
The Thrashers' 5-4 overtime win in Buffalo on November 7 halted a three-game series road losing streak.

American Idol odds : Blake Lewis the Early Standout
An important American Idol betting lines recap from February 20 Guys episode. The 12 men came out flat overall with Blake Lewis appearing to have the early edge after the first hour and a half.
Rudy - was quite good singing "Free Ride" to start off. Randy was not impressed though. Paula thought he started off fantastic. "Never had anyone stop off so lively" said Paula but Simon (who does not like Rudy) does not feel he has a distinct voice and was not impressed either.
Brandon was a little pitchy according to Randy and Paula agreed. Simon said he was a good singer but the song was "too safe" and he needs to make an impact. He was listed at +1200 odds or $1200 paid out on a $100 bet should he win the competition.
Big favorite Sundance came in with a flat version of "Knights in White Satin" and the judges let him have it, including Paula. Randy claimed the song was out of pitch throughout.
Korean American - and a Jenny Woo favorite - Paul Kim was up next. Another pitchy flat one but Randy said he still liked his potential. Kim at +3000 odds was said to have sung a "third rate version of that (George Michael) song" according to Simon Cowell. He sang "Careless Whisper".
22 year old Chris Richardson was up next. He was listed with +1100 odds coming in. He got the best response from the judges though Simon did not believe the vocal was that great.
Nick was boring and pitchy. Simon didn't think he was that bad though and predicted he would be back next week. Nick Pedro was a big +3000 dog coming into this competition.
Beat boxer Blake Lewis was listed with early +1000 odds or $1000 payout on a $100 bet if he were to become the next American Idol winner odds . These of course were the early odds. He was considered original for picking an "odd song". He did not beat box and the judges felt it was the best vocal of the night.
Sanjaya came in as the second biggest favorite after Chris Sligh but his performance Tuesday night was not very good.
Chris Sleigh was the early favorite at +450 odds. Great voice and a great sense of humor. He's a real standout. Randy felt it was on point but maybe ahead of the chorus a little bit. Simon Cowell said he felt like he was in some "sort of weird student gig".
Jared Cotter followed. He was listed with +2000 odds early on to win the competition. The judges felt he needs to take more risks but looked good.
22-year old AJ Talbado, who has tried out for American Idol five times, was up next. "Kind of a theme park performance" said Simon. Though the judges felt he performed okay. Simon did feel AJ might be better than he originally thought.
Phil - this season's military favorite - came into this competition with +1200 odds to win the competition. He was the last to perform. He was certainly strong enough to get through this stage of the competition and perhaps the best one after a shaky start.
Tomorrow night, the ladies perform and I sure hope they do a better job than the boys. Check out all the American Idol betting odds here.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.
MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.
Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.
Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.
After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.
Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.
Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.
If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.
Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
